Adoptions Pending  /  Test Drives

The adoptions pending/test drive page is for our dogs who are currently on a trial run with a potential adopter (lengths of test drives vary based on health, age or adopters needing more time to decide). The majority of these dogs will end up adopted; but a few may not be the right fit. This could be for any reason and is mainly not for any type of aggressive behavior or major problem. You can continue to check this page to see if one of your interests have been adopted or you can email us to inquire about any of these dogs.

Albuquerque Boxers - Adoptions Pending

Milo

Milo Milo, unfortunately, was one of 3 dogs this summer who was hit by a car.  His medical bills were estimated too high for his owner to keep him so he was surrendered (back) to the rescue.  He is safely in another home and being loved by everyone.

Milo is currently on a test drive!

Roscoe is two years old and certainly loves games with people and also likes to run and chase with a female red heeler my daughter has.  Rosco is quite a bit larger than she and they've become good friends in a short period, so that feels hopeful.  My daughter has only female dogs so I don't know if he does as well with males.  He seems to have a pretty mellow personality, but we have no direct experience with other males.

Roscoe has been adopted!

Brandy

Brandy This female was surrendered due to a change in lifestyle of the family.  She takes a few days to get used to someone new, but she gets attached and is a great girl.  She is getting along fine with her male foster siblings and is ready to go to her new home.

Brandy has been adopted!

Clyde

Clyde
Clyde
This poor guy was picked up by Animal Control back in September 2013.  He came in very sick and underweight and was finally hospitalized at VCA where he it was determined he had Parvo and Ringworm.  Because of his super weet nature, the wonderful people at VCA nursed him back to health at their own expense and called us.

As his foster dad says, he is very sweet and smart and has learned quickly to sit for his food.  He likes his foster sibling, another male, and would make a great family dog!

Clyde, now Jaxson, has been adopted!

Ruby has been adopted!

Philly

Philly Philly is an older female who was born blind.  She is a major wiggle butt though and really learns fast.  Oddly, she learned how to use the dog door within an hour or so (faster than many other foster dogs).  She is good with other dogs but does take some time to get used to them.

Philly has been adopted!

Romeo

Romeo
Romeo is formerly known as Cowdy.  He is an 18 month old male, high energy and loves all.  He is great with all other dogs - especially with the young girls as Jayda is in love with him (or just likes to pester him all day).

He is also a hugger - literally - will hug anyone who lets him and not let go!

Romeo has been adopted!

Boz

Boz
Boz, formerly Bruno, is a 2 year old male who is very nice and even somewhat quiet.  He hasn't played much in his short life so he just doesn't know what to do and has absolutely no aggression - as you can see he came out of the shelter with some marks on him - that's because a very small dog did not like him, but Boz didn't fight back.

He would be a great addition to a family who can care for this guy in a way he has never known.

Boz has been adopted!

Jayda

Jayda
Jayda
Jayda is a 7 month old surrendered female.  Why? Because she wasn't potty trained - but now she is and uses the doggy door without any problems.  She is completely non-aggressive, loves other dogs and would probably even do great with a cat.

Her issue is that she is very high energy and needs a home that either provides her with a lot of exercise or another dog that can keep up with her.  She has gone on test drives with smaller dogs that are not into the rough play and she gets frustrated, but not mad.

Jayda has been adopted by Paul!

Minnie

She is a good looking girl and is about 18 months to 2 years old.

Nala has been adopted!

Dahlila

Dahlila
Dahlila
Dahlila is a young female, about 18 months old.  She is a more mellow boxer, likes to hang out with her people and jsut be loved.  She is good with other dogs, but not really interested in playing and does get irritated if the other dog is too high energy.  She also likes to hoard food as she drags the food bowls around the house and hides food in many places.

As mentioned, she is more reserved and may be better as an only dog or with one that is low energy and isn't interested in playing.  She is also crate trained and holds it all night - good with a dog door too!

Dahlila has been adopted!

ZsaZsa

ZsaZsa
ZsaZsa

This is ZsaZsa, a crazy, fun and wild girl.  She came to us with from a shelter and is great with other dogs, likes to play a lot and has a lot of good, boxer energy.  She is spayed and ready to go to her new home - someone with another high energy dog or someone who wants a good exercise partner.  She is between a year and two years old.

ZsaZsa has been adopted!

Kitana

Kitana
Kitana
This is Kitana, a young 7 month old female.  She just came up from the Roswell area and is ready to go - up to date on shots and spayed.  She is a fun-loving girl and is high energy - playing with all her foster siblings.

She has shown some dominance around food and will need a good leader and someone who really wants to exercise her - long walks, runs - since she is a typical stubborn boxer girl!

Kitana has been adopted!

Roadie

Roadie
Roadie
Roadie was found dumped off the side of the road almost 200 miles from Albuquerque with no microchip and no luck finding anyone listing him missing in area "lost pet" sites.  He is about 18 months old, has a great "boxer" look and is excellent with dogs and people.

He does eat really fast and wants to eat a lot, but that should be expected now!

Roadie, now Brody, has been adopted by Brandon and Catee!

Ringo

Ringo

Ringo came to us with a broken front leg (in three places).  He was left in southern NM to fend for himself but was found by some very nice people who helped him in the first few days before he got to Albuquerque.  He is about 3 months old and now adjusting just fine to "lost" leg.

Dulce, now Maggie, has been adopted by Steve and Joanne!

Daisy Duke
This is Daisy Duke.  She is a ball of fire but as sweet as they come.  She is still really underweight and was loaded with ticks and fleas when we picked her up at the shelter.  We think she might be about 1 year old.  It looks like she may have had a litter already.

Daisy Duke has been adopted!

Yogi

Yogi
Yogi
Yogi is a 1 year old male (if that old) and will probably stay on the small side.  He is excellent with other dogs and does not get riled up about cats - but loves his daily walks.  He came in a little possesive of food and attention but has learned to take his turn with his foster siblings.

He is a fast learner and definietly wants to please everyone!

Yogi, now Kobe, has been adopted!

Layla

Layla
Layla is a 2 year old fawn who was surrendered to the rescue.  She is a little on the thin side, loves playing with her toys and loves kids - can even handle being around a cat.  However, she is not good with other female dogs (a bit dominant there) and would probably be better off as an only dog.

She is crate trained and completely house trained too!

Layla, now Boog, has been adopted!

Sugar

Sugar
Sugar
Here is Sugar; another one of our three-legged girls!  She was hit by a car and had to wait out at the shelter for a few days before she could be treated.  She is getting along just fine without her front leg - learning to adjust.

Casper has been adopted!

Aries

Aries
Aries
This is Aries, a young 7 month old male.  He is great with other dogs (male and female) and excellent with cats - unless you hate them chasing each other and playing too much.  He is learning to be in a crate with some luck but prefers to be in there with his foster mom (canine kind, not human).  And he allows the kids to get in to trouble whenever he can.  He is neutered and recovering but it is not slowing him down much!

Aries, now Axl, has been adopted!

Kimba
Kimba
Kimba is good looking female 5 to 6 year old who was picked up at the Farmington shelter.  She is doing great with her 4 boxer friends - but cats are a no go!

She is coming out of her shell & is very loving & starting to play with the other dogs - blood work is ok - negative on heartworm but she needs to be spayed.

She needs to go to a home with 6 ft fence or to somebody who will be with her all day as she will jump the 5 ft fence & come to her foster dad's shop.  She does not want to be left out; rides in car very well & is learning to mind off leash (loving her walks).  What a great boxer girl!!!!!!!!!!!

She is calm and will play but prefers to be at your side and just hang out with you all day.  Send us an email to find out more about her.

Kimba is currently on a test drive!

Abby

Abby
Abby
Abby
Abby:  Beautiful, sweet, loving and playful girl that gets along great with every dog and although she loves cats she doesn’t know to treat them different then a puppy friend.

She loves people and is not shy about asking for attention from anyone she meets.  She gets daily compliments at the dog park on her adorable face and wonderful temperament/personality.  Up to date on all of her shots and in perfect health.

She is housebroken, crate trained, great off leash but does need lead training.  Abby needs a family with a 6 foot wall or that would be willing to put bamboo/anything else around the fence.  She likes to jump but the only way she can get out is if she has something to grab and pull herself up.

Abby has been adopted by Alona!

Daisy

Daisy
Daisy
Daisy is an estimated 4-5 years old and in need of a new home. She is crate trained, loves kids and does the typical Boxer 1/2 turn when excited. She prefers to be with no other female dogs, and is definitely an inside couch potato. Very shy at first but give it a couple of days and she won't leave your side.

Daisy has been adopted!

Wrinkles

Wrinkles
Wrinkles
We seized Wrinkles in a cruelty case in September 2010.  He has been neutered and had 3 skin masses removed.  He is an older Boxer but did well with the surgery and anesthesia.  Our big hope for him is that because he spent his entire life on a chain, then in a small run for the past 18 months (although he does get time in the play area each day), that he gets to spend some of his life in a yard with some freedom to run around.  Wrinkles is very sweet and extremely friendly; he has an incredibly sunny outlook and attitude.  He can sit on command and walk on a leash.   We don’t know that he has ever been inside a house.    We would appreciate anything that someone can do in helping Wrinkles find a wonderful home!

Wrinkles has been adopted by Angela!

Baxter

Baxter Baxter is a high energy, young and tall male.   He is excellent with other dogs (likes to play rough), great with kids and treats cats just like other dogs - chases, plays rough and gets chased.

Baxter has been adopted by Greg and Eric!

We need to find a foster home for her here in Albuquerque too.  If you can help out, we would appreciate it!

Chanel is on a test drive!

Jagger
Jagger is a 2-3 year old male who is fairly calm but does like to play when he is in the mood.  He gets along great with other dogs and would like to find a nice home where he can be spoiled!

Raven

Raven
Raven
Raven
This is Raven, she is about 3 months old and has already had a rough start.  She was taken to the vet with a broken femur and had a pin attached to the bone.  It fit perfectly and she was on her way to healing.  But while getting better, she had a setback and ended up with an infection in her leg.  Because of the deterioration in the bone, we decided to amputate her leg.

She is now doing great, going for walks and running around without many problems.  She plays hard with her foster siblings (Kacey especially) and does not have many fears - although before she got here, she was afraid to come inside or play with any toys.

Kayla

Kayla
Kayla
Kayla is a 14 week old female.  She was surrendered to the rescue and when she went in to the vet, they found that her leg had been broken two weeks prior and her owners let it heal without taking her to a vet.

Although her leg has healed, it healed improperly.  She uses it and runs around normally but sometimes she raises; mostly it seems to happen when she hits a height growth spurt.  The vet thinks she will need to be checked again once she is full grown - she is now 21 pounds of trouble!

She and Kacey love each other as you can see by the picture and she was playing well with Lego and Tyco until they left.  She now goes for hour walks and does just fine - her leg has not been a problem since she started exercising regularly 3 weeks ago!

Their mom passed away while nursing due to poor nutrition.  As you can see, these two are mixes but play just like normal boxers.

Tyco and Lego have been adopted!

Tillie

Tillie
Tillie
My name is Tillie, I'm a 4 1/2 year young, dark brindle.  I like to play outside with my foster dad and follow him around the house an keep an eye on him; he needs it.  I enjoy nice long walks too.

The last few weeks with my foster parents has been great. I play with the rest of the dogs, 3 of the 4 and have fun (don't really back down from another aggressive female - but fine with a submissive one).  I'm all fixed up now with shots and a micro chip and no more puppies for me!

I use the doggie door and have never had an accident in the house before.  I'm crate trained, but I'm safe throughout the house even through the nights.

Tillie has been adopted by Dottie!

Pepper

Pepper
Pepper
Pepper is a crazy, young female (about 1.5 years old).  She is a highly energetic and very dominant girl though - more of a tomboy type of personality.  She loves Kacey when she goes to the BRA events and gets along just fine with her male foster sibling.

She doesn't like other dogs snapping at her much so she would be better with a high energy male or a single dog.

Pepper has been adopted by Shirley!

Murray

Murray
Murray
Murray is a young male, about 1.5 to 2 years old.  He is a great looking boxer with a mellow personality.  He gets along great with the foster dogs although he really isn't interested in playing much.  He prefers to cuddle and hug as much as possible.

He crates very well but also just hangs out while his foster dad is gone.  He is excellent on a leash and pays little attention to other dogs in their yards.

Murray is currently on a test drive!

PD

PD
PD
PD is a very young male (9 months), highly energetic but a terrific companion.  He is getting along just fine with all his foster siblings and even his cat friend.  He is around a lot of young children and will sometimes bounce around them too much but they are used to foster dogs and helping him adjust.

He goes for a walk every day and is still learning that he needs to ignore other dogs in their yards, but is slowly figuring it out.  He is the older brother of Lucky and was definitely the more dominant one.

He needs a high energy owner who is willing to work with him but he responds fast and well.  He also is learning to crate too!

PD has been adopted!

Chip

Chip
Chip
This is Chip!!! This handsome boy has really been through the ringer. Chip comes from a very abusive past but he is still all smiles and LOVES to be loved. Chip is doing fantastic with other females (not been tested with males yet) and is trying to learn how to play. Chip loves to eat and loves to snuggle. This smart guy learns very fast and responds very quickly to direction. Chip needs lots and lots of love and needs someone to give him direction as he is not quite sure how to just be a happy dog but is picking it up fast. Chip would probably be best with another dog however, I'm sure he would have no problem being an only child. Chip is super easy going and is going to make someone an AWESOME companion!!!! We absolutely adore this guy!!! Chip just needs to be neutered and then he is ready for his new, happy life with the right forever home. Will that be you???

Chip has been adopted!

Dozer
This is Dozer. He is a 10 month old teen that needs plenty of exercise and play. He is such a puppy, doesn't much care for his leash and was kept outside. He has been cared for by a concerned animal control officer and another family in New Mexico.

He was neutered on October 5th and will be available very soon. He gets along well with other dogs and lived with a 14 year old female boxer and and a 2 year old male boxer. He has been introduced to Pancho and everything seems to be ok. He knows how to sit and is fairly obedient. He does need to learn some manners, but has been with pre-school age children at his foster home.

Dozer has been adopted!

Banjo

Banjo
Banjo
Banjo
This is Banjo. He was named Banjo because he's wound pretty tight just like a banjo string. He likes to know exactly where you are at all times or he'll run around the house looking for you.

Since he can't hear, he likes to keep an eye on you.  His foster dad spent 2 hours with Banjo at the westside shelter and he honestly had him fooled; it seemed that he could hear. Needless to say he's deaf, but he doesn't let that bother him at all. He is very attentive and is always looking at me for direction. While writing this, Banjo is laying near the computer while Coco and Pancho are running around the house at 90 miles an hour. He loves to ride in the car and waits patiently in the morning when his foster dad swims.

He crates well, but does holler for awhile until he settles. He was heart worm positive when he first came into the rescue and is currently being treated. He was also treated for some lacerations on his side from unknown origin. If you're concerned about a deaf dog, we would encourage you to come by PetVet to meet Banjo. He is a very fun boy to have around the house.

Banjo has been adopted!

June Bug

June Bug
June Bug
This is June Bug; she is a little chunky right now but is going on a diet!  She is approximately 2 1/2 years old and was found wandering around loose with her puppies.

For the most part, she ignores the other dogs as she wants to play with people instead of hanging out with the pack.  But she trained to the crate almost instantly.

Currently, she is heartworm positive and will be getting treatment and will be spayed very soon.  She is 55 solid pounds but will be less soon.

June Bug has been adopted!

Loki
Loki
Loki  is a 2yo male neutered boxer. He is house broken and gets along well with other pets (cats, dogs, people). He is currently living with 2 people, 2 cats and another boxer. He likes rawhides, long runs, going to the dog park, any park with grass, and can be trusted on and off the leash as long as you - the owner - are on the ball and remind him about keeping in his "area/yard."

He is extremely adept at removing squeaky makers from toys, but loves toys, balls, sticks, and anything considered boxer fun. His current project is removing the strings from a football.

Loki is currently on a test drive!

And here is Brandon. He is about 3 or so. He seems to be very gentle and loving and mostly interested in being right with you.

He has lost the hair around his neck from being tied up so tightly. It seems to be growing back fine. He gets along well with Pearl, but wants to dominate the boys.

He is also very high energy and needs a home with someone who will exercise him regularly.

Brandon has been adopted!

Poppy

Poppy
Poppy
Poppy is a female brindle who is full of energy.  She seems to always be on the go.  She is excellent with other dogs (but it would be best if she were with a high energy male) and shares toys and food with absolutely no problems.  She likes to play hard and can be vocal when excited at playtime.

She is not a jumper since instead of going over a sideways ladder, she almost got stuck trying to go through it - yes, she may not exactly be the sharpest tool in the shed.  But she makes up for it in her sweetness and playful nature!

Poppy is currently on a test drive with Lisa!

Roxy

This is Roxy, a young female who was left outside most of her young life.  She is now learning how to be a family dog and definitely has a stubborn, boxer streak.  But, she is slowly figuring it out and will become a great addition to her new family.

Roxy passed her test drive and is waiting to be finalized!

Sadie

Sadie
Sadie
This cute girl is named Sadie!

She is about 18 months old and only weighs 31 pounds.

Sadie is currently on a test drive!

Peaches

Peaches This pretty girl is named Peaches. She is being fostered with 2 male boxers and another female without any problems at all. When the other dogs wrestle and play, she sits nicely on the couch and just watches them. She doesn’t jump on people and crates well once you get her in, but she will need a little work on her potty training. She came very underweight so we are focusing on plumping her up and making her stronger. She is a really sweet girl who just wants to be hugged and to follow you around the house!

Adoption pending!

Lucy

Lucy This is Lucy, she is about 3-1/2 or so. Lucy is a very happy playful girl and is very affectionate and loves to have her belly rubbed. She is one of our smaller girls. She gets along well with her Chihuahua friend and the Rottweiler pup that is currently living there. She is very good with children and lets the 1 year old do just about anything to her with no objections.

Adoption pending!

Stella

Tyra

Tyra Hello, I am Tyra, about 2 to 3 years old, and I just came up from Hobbs. There isn't a whole lot of information about me but I am a little shy at first; have had no problem with other dogs; and, I like kids!

If you are interested in finding out more about me, now that I am in the rescue, please send an email and submit an online application.

Adoption pending!

Ling Ling

Ling Ling Ling Ling has lived with a Chihuahua mix and a Lab at the same time and they all got along fine. They played indoors and out, ran the perimeter of our back yard, played with toys, ate their food at the same time. Ling Ling lives in a house with a Mom and daughter. She usually barks at strangers at the front door, but settles down after she sees that no one is in any harm. She likes all people, especially if they pet her and pay attention to her. Ling Ling has her own chair with a cover on it and a big dog bed. Ling Ling rides in the back seat with a cover on the bench. She also likes to get in the front passenger seat, but will get in the back upon command. Ling Ling is very good when she gets her shots. She does not bother other dogs and is very good with the vet.

Ling Ling passed her test drive and is waiting to be finalized!

He was only 47 when we got him but he has been eating better and gaining a little weight. He could use a bit more but he is beginning to look good. He is smart and learns fast. He is getting neutered 9/13/11 and will be healing for a week or so. He has all his shots and has been microchipped and is ready for a new home. He does have cherry eye and will be getting it fixed soon.

She has been sad because her family didn't come for her, but she is having fun now with Jimbo & Sweetie at Manny's house. She gets along with all the dogs she has been introduced to and her little tail goes crazy when she sees the kids.

Princess 1 is currently on a test drive with Susan and family!

Carson

Carson
Carson
This is Carson. This handsome boy is about 60 pounds or so. He is about 2 years old. He and Lola were running together.

They had a great time playing with kids 7-14 in the yard and were very well behaved. His markings are very faint brindle stripes on a fawn coat. Staying at the shelter has seriously dampened their spirits and you would never guess how happy they can be.

Carson is currently on a test drive with Andrew and Jovanna!

Rocky

Rocky
Rocky
This is Rocky, he is about 1-1/2; is a bundle of energy and loves to play and run around. He is missing a bit of toe on his hind foot.

We were told his mother did it when he was born and she was chewing the birth sac off of him. He doesn't notice it and it makes no difference to his agility. He has all his shots and is scheduled to be neutered July 7. He now weighs about 60 pounds or so and has gained some weight; but could use a bit more.

This is Bonnie who is an owner surrender because of a divorce.  She is very dainty and small, about 5 years old and barely weighs 50 pounds.

She is sweet and affectionate would like to sit in your lap; well cared for and cute she even has pink polished toenails.  She is doing well for being in her third place in 3 days.  A little uncertain, but willing.  She knows sit and give me a hug and give kisses.  She takes treats nicely.  She doesn't really know about crates, but went in fine when I insisted and only fussed for a minute or two after lights out.

Her former owner says she is female aggressive, but she has not displayed that behavior here.

If you are interested in adopting Bonnie, please contact us by email.

Thank you Lesa for fostering Bonnie!

Daisey

Daisey
Daisey
Hi there, this young lady, Daisey, is somewhere between 1 and 2 years old and is a surrender.  Right now she is about 60 pounds and a bit chunky; but she loves to go for walks and loves to run and play in the yard with the other boxers, so she should slim down a bit.

She is not as good at sharing her toys as the others are.  She was left with the parents when the owner went off to college, and they are not prepared to be responsible for her, so we have her now.  She is a lover and just so sweet; she loves attention and is so happy to meet everyone.

She walks nicely, is learning sit and is almost house trained.  She is also learning about the doggie door to go outside.  A big thank you to Manny for fostering Daisey.

Daisey is currently on a test drive!

Dixie

Dixie
Dixie2
This is Dixie, she was found wandering around a gas station and brought to the shelter where no one claimed her.

She is a beautiful fawn female, medium sized, and very calm and quiet; we are guessing about 3 years old.  Of course she has only been around her new foster home for a short time, so maybe she'll look happier when she has been here a while!

Dixie is currently on a test drive!

Jac

Jac This newbie is Jac, a male brindle, who has been surrendered because his "kid" family has left home and they think he would be better off with other kids and/or another dog.

Jac is currently on a test drive!

Starry

Starry This is the other English Bulldog/ Boxer girl she seems a bit younger than Dreamer, perhaps she is her daughter. She was even more shy and uncertain of all the chaos at the shelter. Both girls are sweet and calm and easygoing. It would be best for them if they could stay together to reassure each other.

Starry is currently on a test drive with Amber!

Benny

Benny He is at least 3 and maybe more. He knows sit. He is really smart and needs a thoughtful owner who is going to be able to keep him entertained so he doesn't go getting into trouble. Gave him a chewy and he was fine when I crated him. If you are interested in Benny, please contact Lesa and complete our new online application.
